What storage unit size do I need?

Storage West offers a variety of unit sizes and types for you to choose from. We have an online sizing tool to help you choose the unit size that is right for you. You can find it by visiting our sizing guide here.

What type of storage unit do I need?

There are many different factors that go into deciding what type of storage unit is right for you. Once you’ve decided on a size, determine if you need a drive up unit or a unit that is located inside the building. Drive up units are easily accessible as you can pull up next to your unit to load and unload your items directly into it.

Inside units are a great alternative that allows for better dust control and may provide cooler interior temperatures during warmer seasons depending on the facility. Learn more about what’s available when you check your city and state (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California).

Do you offer air cooled or air conditioned units?

Depending on the location of the facility you are renting at, we have various cooling options to cool the interior units. At least 35 of our locations are air cooled or air conditioned.

The air cooled system pushes cool air throughout the units and generally produces temperatures 15-20 degrees cooler than our normally insulated buildings would be without it. Alternatively, some of our other facilities in different climates do offer air conditioned units. What is a drive-up unit?

Drive up units are easily accessible from your vehicle. You are able to pull up next to your unit to load and unload your items directly into your unit. Find a drive-up unit list here.

What is a roll-up door?

These are doors that roll upwards like a garage door as they are opened.

What is the ceiling height of your storage units?

Often they are 10 feet high depending on the particular unit you rent. Please contact the Facility Manager if you have a particular need. Learn more about unit size here.

Can I store a vehicle in my unit?

Depending on the unit size and type of vehicle, yes you can. It must be in operational condition. If it is planned for long term storage, we recommend the oil is drained, fuel level low, and the battery is disconnected. You must also provide proof of vehicle insurance and registration, and sign an additional vehicle storage form. Please note that some county or city zoning ordinances may prohibit storing your vehicle in your unit. Please check with your facility manager (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California) to confirm.

Facility Information

What security measures are used to protect my belongings?

Here at Storage West our properties are fully fenced, have security cameras and automated gates with individual gate codes that you choose. We take self-storage seriously.

What pest control and cleanliness measures do you take?

Our facilities have pest control vendors that service our facilities each month. Services vary among different districts and time of the year but in general these vendors install bait stations for rodents and spray aisles, buildings, and facility perimeter for insects each month.

Are hand carts and dollies provided?

Yes, for your convenience, hand carts and dollies are provided at our facilities. Learn more with these moving tips.

Who has access to my storage unit?

The individual or organization listed as the tenant on the rental agreement has access to their storage unit. You also have the right to provide access to any person that you choose by giving them the unit number, key and gate code.

Do you have gates?

Our facilities are fully fenced and offer automated gates with individual gate access codes that customers choose themselves.

Do you offer parking for RV’s, boats, cars, and motorcycles?

What does it mean for a facility to have lift or elevator access?

A lift is a way to move items/merchandise from one level to another in the storage building. However, riding in the lift with your items is not allowed. An elevator is another way used to move items/merchandise from one level to another in the storage building. Individuals are allowed to ride in the elevator with their items. What does it mean for a facility to have an on-site resident manager?

This means that the Facility Manager(s) live on-site at the storage facility.

What are facility access hours?

Access hours vary by facility. You can find the hours for your facility on the Storage West website. Look for it by state (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California) and specific location.

Do you accommodate large moving vans?

This will depend on the facility. Please contact the facility manager before you move to verify that there is enough space. Find your facility’s phone number here (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California).

Do you offer vehicle/RV/boat storage?

Yes, we offer vehicle/RV/boat storage at many of our facilities. For long term storage, we recommend the oil is drained, fuel level low, and the battery is disconnected. You must also provide proof of vehicle insurance and registration.

Do you hold auctions at your storage facilities?

No. All of our auctions are held online through a third party auction website.

Renting With Storage West

How long of a lease am I required to sign?

Our leases are month-to-month and require no long term commitment.

What are your storage unit prices?

Our unit prices vary by location, size, and type. You can find out more by finding your closest facility in your state (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California) on the Storage West website.

Do I need my own lock?

Yes. A disc or cylinder lock is required on all units. The type of required lock varies by facility and each of our offices have locks available for purchase. You may use your own lock if approved by the manager. Please contact your facility manager for more information regarding locks.

Am I required to have insurance on my stored items?

Proof of insurance coverage on your stored items must be provided if you choose to rent with our Basic lease. If you take advantage of our low cost service upgrade by choosing our Here for You Guarantee, you’ll receive extra protection for your items and discounts that add value and convenience to your storage experience. With the Here for You Guarantee lease you are not required to provide proof of insurance.

How much is insurance?

We do not sell insurance. With our Basic lease, proof of your insurance covering your stored items is required at the time of rental. If you take advantage of our Here for You Guarantee, a low-cost service upgrade that adds extra protection, discounts and convenience to your storage experience, you are not required to provide proof of insurance.

What is the difference between the Here for You Guarantee and the Basic lease option?

Our Here for You Guarantee is a low-cost service upgrade and discount plan that adds extra protection and convenience to your storage experience. It includes significant cost savings on merchandise, and additional services like free faxing, scanning, and double miles when using our free move-in truck.

The Basic lease is just that basic, and requires you to provide proof of insurance coverage for your items while they are stored in the unit.

Will my rent go up every year?

Typically in the self-storage industry rental rates fluctuate based on supply and demand. Rents may stay the same or change depending on a variety of economic factors. Save $25 with our referral program.

Are there any items that are prohibited to store?

Yes, the storage unit can be used only to store ordinary household goods, business items, vehicles, and for no other purpose. You may not store any jewels, money, fine art, or other very expensive items, hazardous waste or toxic substances, or any dangerous or highly flammable item such as chemicals, explosives, or fuel, damp items.

Can I rent a unit over the phone or online?

Yes, we offer the convenience of renting a unit online or over the phone with e-signature. You will save time by renting online.

How far in advance can I reserve a storage unit?

Typically at Storage West you can reserve most units up to 14 days in advance. Please speak with your facility manager for more details.

What is the required length of time I need to sign a lease for?

Our leases are month-to-month and require no long term commitment.

What do I need to rent a storage unit?

You must be 18 and possess a valid government photo ID, address within the United States, and a copy of your insurance coverage if you do not select our Here for You Guarantee lease.

Does Storage West offer long term leases?

All of our leases are month to month.

Can I move to a different storage unit size after I’ve already moved in?

Yes, you can transfer to a different unit so long as there is one available, please contact your facility manager.

Do you require a move out notice?

Our standard notification per our lease is a 10-day notice but we are happy to work with our customers’ needs.

Can I have two names on the storage unit lease?

Only one customer or company name may be added to the lease as the customer of record. You do have the right to provide access to any person that you choose by giving them the unit number, key and gate code.

Do you do rent increases?

Rent increases are common in the storage industry as pricing can change often. Earn $25 with our referral program.

Do you offer a military or first responder discount?

Yes, we do. When you come to Storage West, let us know if you are part of the military, police or a firefighter at the time of your storage rental, and you’ll save 10% every month on your storage space.

Do you have movers?

We do not work with a specific moving company. If you are moving yourself, we do have a free moving truck which is available by reservation and subject to availability. The driver must be 21, have a valid driver’s license and current proof of auto liability insurance.

Can movers come to the storage unit without me?

If you provide the mover with the unit number, gate code and key to the unit they can move your items into or out of the unit. Keep storage unit organization in mind if you do this.

Can I buy boxes or other packing products from Storage West?

Yes, we sell moving boxes and packing supplies. Remember all boxes are not the same! We have lots of different sizes of high quality boxes and a variety of moving supplies to choose from. Can I use the free move-in truck overnight or to move out of my unit?

Our truck can be used free of charge for up to seven hours with a reservation during business hours for customers renting a new unit. Please note that our trucks are subject to availability and charges may apply if returned late or over the mileage limit. You can get more miles with the Here for You Guarantee.

I lost my key, what do I do?

Please contact your Facility Manager. Find the number by looking up your facility (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California).

Account Management and Payment

What payment options are available?

You can make payments with cash, check, money order and credit card. Sign up for autopay to pay your rent hassle free every month.

When is my payment due?

Your payment is due each month on the same day of the month that you initially rented your unit. For example, if you rented your unit on the 10th your rent is due each month on the 10th day going forward. Pay online.

Do you prorate my final month’s rent?

We know that sometimes our customers need a little more time. We will prorate your last month’s rent if you move out within the first 7 days of your monthly rental period. If you do move out after 7 days, you will be charged a full month’s rent.

Can I set up automatic payments?

Yes, you can set up automatic payments through your Storage West account or contact the Facility Manager.

Will I receive a monthly rent invoice?

If you would like to receive an invoice every month, upon request, the Facility Manager will happily set up your account to email you an invoice.

Can I make changes to my account over the phone?

All changes to your account or rental agreement must be submitted in writing. We do, however, offer email and online options through the My Account page on the Storage West website for customers to make adjustments to their accounts.

How can I make a payment?

We offer various ways of paying for your unit including online at paystoragewest.com over the phone, signing up for autopay, or in person at the facility.
