Considered part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area’s East Valley region, Tempe is anchored by Arizona State University to the west, the Salt River to the north and the 101 Freeway to the east. Conveniently, Valley Metro light rail stations are nearby – making it easy to travel to downtown Phoenix and other areas of the Valley.
The northern part of Tempe is known for swift urbanization and an expanding skyline dotting Tempe Town Lake. Arizona State University is by far the area’s largest employer; however, Tempe is also home to Fortune 500 tech giant, Insight Enterprises, as well as FirstSolar, Lifelock, Circle K and Limelight Networks. Additionally, IKEA chose Tempe for its first Arizona location – the store is also the biggest on the West Coast. Tempe takes pride in its history of supporting and nurturing businesses and offers prominent business incubators FABRiC and BRiC.

What to Do in Tempe, Arizona
Tempe is brimming with activity for people of all ages. Families looking to fill a weekend won’t have to drive far, with the Tempe Beach Park, Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden all within a few minutes of each other. Tempe Beach Park is characterized by grassy meadows and the gentle lap of Tempe Town Lake. Rent a paddleboat or bike for an active day outdoors, or simply enjoy a picnic with the family on the grass.
After that, take your pick: flora or fauna? Both are nearby – in fact, they are right next door to one another. The Phoenix Zoo is the largest privately owned, nonprofit zoo in the country with more than 1,400 animals (including giraffes, Komodo dragons and Sumatran tigers, among many others) and a robust conservation program. At the Desert Botanical Garden, visitors explore 140 acres dedicated to nurturing plants – ranging from prickly cacti to delicate blooms and rare, endangered species.
More adult-friendly activities are offered in Tempe, too, including plenty of drinking and eating options along Mill Avenue. Colloquially referred to as simply “Mill,” the area is a hotspot for college students from nearby ASU. A few favorite destinations include the Mellow Mushroom (for comfort food), Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and the Baked Bear for decadent, candy-encrusted ice cream sandwiches. Those seeking a higher-end option look to Caffe Boa, for charcuterie boards and artisanal cocktails, or House of Tricks for award-winning American food in a restored 1920s bungalow.
If you’re a fan of locally made beer, head over to the Four Peaks Brewery. Go on a tour to learn about the beer-making process as well as the company’s history. At the end of the tour, you’ll have a chance to sip on their flagship brew, the Kiltlifter.
Are you in the mood to shop? You’re in luck at Tempe Marketplace, an expansive outdoor shopping center on the banks of the Salt River. Tempe Marketplace offers more than 100 retailers, water features and fireplaces to enjoy. There’s also a large Harkins theater – Arizonans know one of the best ways to escape the summer heat is to see a movie with a cool drink and a bag of popcorn.
Life in Tempe is all about having fun, thinking big and realizing everything this desert oasis has to offer.

As a contractor we rent units all over the country while working on large projects. Storage West has been the best partner we have worked with! Great Staff, very helpful, great communication. We highly recommend doing business with them!

Our son used storage west while he went to school at ASU. Unfortunately we had two summers with a bad experience. Upon his return one summer it was apparent that some one had tried to break into his unit; as the lock had been cut and we were unable to open it. They had to use metal cutters to cut the lock so he could access the unit. The next summer his whole unit had been broken into and almost ALL items were stolen; minus the large items that may have been harder to carry. My concern was that when we were called and notified two days later; we were told that the police had not been a called and if we wanted to file a report we would have to take those steps. Why wouldn't they call the police if someone had been on their property and committed a robbery? We contacted the police and they went to the facility; however, there was no video for them to view? and nothing on the keypad entries that could help them. To this day we think it was an inside job. Who else would know that this was a summer rental and that the renter would not be back for months? Why is it that of all the lockers in the facility; ours was the only one broken into. All I can say is student renters beware.
Storage West Response:
We're really very sorry that you've not had a great experience with us. We do recommend a police report be filed in a situation like this. Break ins are not common here at our facility. We will do whatever we can to assist law enforcement with this matter. Thank you for letting us know what happened and working with us to gather information so we can work to prevent this happening to anyone else.

Connie was extremely helpful and made the process of renting storage extremely easy. I was told she was the person with all the knowledge and answers and they were right.
