With the school year coming to an end it can be bitter sweet. You’ll get a break from the daily stress of trying to rush everyone around, but it also means that there will be a lot more free time for the children. It can be hard to come up with things to take the kids to do that won’t break the bank.2 young boys up in a tree

If you don’t already regularly use the Library here in Surprise then summer is a great time to start. They have events happening daily. There is a broad range of things going on each week. So no matter the age group of your children they have something for them to join in on. Take a look at their events calendar. They even have a monthly Family Funday Sunday to get everyone involved at once!

On the list of free things to check out for the kiddos….Did you know that the City of Surprise hosts free movies nights at the Stadium? All of their special events can be seen on their website. This is a great way to get everyone out of the house and unique way to go see the movies you missed with them at the theatre. The Surprise Aquatics center also has movie nights, but there is a cost for these nights. If you are a Surprise resident you catch a break. You can check out the events specific to the aquatics center here.

If you are looking for some outdoor activities before the summer really starts to heat up then the White Tank Mountains are a short drive away. The fee to get in is $7/vehicle. They have a nature center, kid friendly hiking trails, and a library! You can get more information about the park including directions! Make sure and carry lots of water!

Hoping to think up some activities without having to leave the comfort of your home? With a little creativity, you can play games that require absolutely no supplies. Do you ever remember playing a game like freeze in school? The music plays and then as soon as it stops you freeze in whatever position you are in. Kids love goofy games like this. If you have a hard time coming up with original ideas check out Pinterest or do a quick google search.

The point is to keep them active physically and mentally during these few months. So, while the summer is here, rest assured that with a little extra effort you’ll have the children entertained with no problems what so ever.
