For the past 4 years our Manager Mike Dempster has been volunteering his time with the Taste of the NFL charity event. We wanted to take just a minute to tell you about his experience with this organization.
Taste of the NFL
Mike originally got involved with the Taste of the NFL when the founder, Wayne Kostroski, was looking for storage. Mike got to talking with him about the event and really connected with their purpose. Each year volunteers get together to raise money for hungry people in the United States. This year 32 teams participated in Minneapolis. Teams send a representative player, a Hall of Famer and a volunteer Chef to prepare delicious food for attendees. Attendees purchase tickets and get to taste all of these NFL creations. They also hold a silent auction. This year they auctioned off donated items like signed helmets, Miss America’s necklace, and Tiffany’s jewelry. The proceeds are all donated to a local food bank in the city of the event each year.
Mike very much wanted to contribute and asked how he could help. He volunteered his time and now each year he helps with the logistics of transporting the inventory associated with the event.
Because of the hard work of people like Mike and all the other volunteers with the Taste of the NFL event they’ve been able to feed 260 million hungry people over the years. They are able to feed 800 people with each $100 they earn through ticket sales and donations. They even donated the leftover food from the event to a local homeless shelter.
We are very proud of Mike’s involvement with the community. He is truly dedicated to helping as much as he can. For him, it’s all about the purpose of this event. Not all charities are equal. Taste of the NFL donated 100% of their proceeds to fight hunger. And surely, getting to meet Miss America in the process wasn’t half bad either.
Next year they plan to host the event in Atlanta. We can’t wait to see who Mike gets to meet then, and hear how many more people were saved from hunger.
