Santa Ana: Second-Largest City in Orange County is Number One for Businesses and Residents

Founded in 1869, Santa Ana is a bustling metropolitan city in Southern California. It has earned a reputation as an exciting and growing city, attracting many businesses, young professionals and families.

Santa Ana is between the ocean and the mountains — residents get the best of both worlds. The beach is a 20-minute drive away, but you can also escape to the trails and natural scenery of the Santa Ana mountains. Also nearby are popular theme parks Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. You can reach Orange, Anaheim and Irvine in less than 10 minutes. Residents appreciate the city’s proximity to some of the most prominent destinations in Southern California.

At the center of the cultural scene is the Santa Ana Artists’ Village, a vibrant collection of more than 40 galleries, workspaces and restaurants. The neighborhood hosts an art walk during the first Saturday of every month. Downtown Santa Ana boasts several immaculately preserved historic homes and buildings dating to the early 20th century and before.

Many businesses are headquartered in Santa Ana, including Behr and Kern’s. The top employers in the city are the County of Orange and Ingram Micro, a distributor of information technology. Additionally, the Rancho Santiago Community College District employs more than 2,000 people in Santa Ana and the surrounding area.

Interstate 405, Interstate 5 and the John Wayne Airport provide quick access to other cities in California and across the region.

Things to Do in Santa Ana

There are numerous activities to fill the sunny days in Santa Ana. Start off at the Bowers Museum — it’s considered one of the best cultural institutions in Orange County, with art from around the globe. Explore the museum’s impressive Native American art, displaying unparalleled basketry, beadwork, weapons, jewelry and more from pre-historic times to the present. You’ll also find art from Asia, Africa and South America.

Minutes from the Bowers Museum is River View Golf Course. This challenging course hugs the banks of the seasonal Santa Ana River, which can be tough for even experienced golfers to navigate. After 18 holes, kick back at the course’s restaurant, the Niblick Bar, Grill and Patio, for a well-deserved bite to eat and a cold drink.

Another place to enjoy Santa Ana’s pleasant weather is the Mile Square Regional Park, which contains two lakes, three 18-hole golf courses, sports fields, a recreation center and an archery range. Formerly a naval landing field and almost perfectly square, the park is a peaceful retreat at the heart of one of the most densely populated cities in California. Wheel Fun Rentals, in the northeastern corner of the park, provides tandem bikes and paddle boats for a day full of outdoor recreation the whole family will love.

Santa Ana’s premier shopping destination is the South Coast Plaza Mall, a landmark brimming with more than 250 stores in addition to food options ranging from quick bites to award-winning fine dining. It’s next door to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, a multi-venue campus hosting live music, dance and other performances. Make sure to also explore the Isamu Noguchi sculpture garden, “California Scenario,” on the property grounds.

The Lyon Air Museum is a quintessential Santa Ana destination celebrating the city’s aviation roots. Santa Ana was home to the Glenn L. Martin company, an early aircraft manufacturer, which later merged with the Wright Company in 1916. Furthermore, Santa Ana was a primary training center for the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. At the Lyon Air Museum, you can examine authentic aircraft and rare vehicles in mint condition.

Music fans from across Southern California gather in Santa Ana for the yearly Outpost Fest. This fall festival is known for featuring the best in the indie rock scene. Headliners in the past included the Cold War Kids and Blonde Redhead. Good tunes are only one part of the equation, though: Outpost is also known for mouthwatering food options and unique pop-up shops.

Fairview location Santa Ana, your lighting system all across the units on the outside is horrible, i never seen such irritating lighting style at such lower high from the ground up, those lights straight in to your face and your eyes, by the time i get out of the facility my eyes simply hurt so bad and get blurry after only 20 minutes of been there, witch is not good to drive like that back home. i had use storage for years but i never came across this uncomfortable issue, get proper lighting please and raise them up atlest 20 feet up above the ground, witch is the standard height for lightings that strong on any businesses or industrial area, is done this way to protect your eyes.

Storage West Response:

Hi Luis,

We're sorry to hear you are having trouble with the lights. We aren't quite sure where you are seeing this issue though. Our exterior lights are above eye level. We replaced all of the outside lighting at this facility with LCD lights in 2017 and they are working as designed. The next time you stop in would you mind pointing out where you're having issues so we can take a look? We'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much for the feedback!

WARNING! I'd give this place ZERO stars if I could!! Seemed like a nice calm place considering it is in Santa Ana. Boy were we fooled!! Was just there today on a hot summer day and honestly moving heavy boxes around makes you dehydrated. As I'm leaving I had not realized that it was 7 and I'm thinking "oh just in time." WRONG! A black truck approaches me slowly (not creepy at all right?). This blonde middle-aged lady comes out yelling at me asking me what storage unit I am. In my head I'm wondering who this lady is for her to be yelling at me and asking me for personal information. So I tell her and I ask her who she is. She said she was a manager and continued yelling at me about the closing time. MY GOD!!! Where did she learn about customer service???!! Identify yourself first please!! The hours of operation say 7am-7pm. I was tired from moving boxes and I was leaving at 7! I explained myself but she continued to yell at me with such horrible attitude. We're in the process of getting a house and we will NEVER use that place ever again in the future! Taking our money elsewhere! I didn't even get her name. Horrible horrible horrible!

Storage West Response:

We're very sorry about your experience. Customer service is extremely important to us. It is very unusual for us to hear someone had an unsatisfactory experience like this. Our Managers are very focused on the safety of the facility, we're so sorry her questions came off as rude though. Thanks for letting us know what happened.
