A Random Act of Kindness Can Make All The Difference
This is one of my favorite days of the year. Why you might ask? “It’s just another day!” Well, many times people forget that being kind is the best thing you can be. I use this day as a teaching tool for my children and know many people who do the same. Here are a few ways you can show random acts of kindness in your neighborhood, workplaces or homes.
One way you can participate in this day and show kindness to a stranger is paying for the person in line that is behind you. Many people do this in drive-thru coffee shops and many times it can create a chain of people paying for the next person’s coffee. If you don’t drink coffee, you can still pay for the person behind you and treat them to breakfast. This simple thing can and will brighten anyone’s day – I should know, it’s happened to me!
Just recently I had decided to buy the person who was behind me in line’s coffee at Dunkin Donuts. When I got to the window to pay, the cashier informed me that the person in front of me had already paid for my order. I was just one of at least 12 other people who had paid for the person behind them. I kept the chain going and paid for the man behind me. This brought a huge smile to my face and I hope it helped the other 12 people have a better day as well!
Another way to show kindness without spending any money is to compliment someone, be a listening ear for a friend in need or just give a hug to someone you know is having a hard time. These small things remind others that it is good in the world in an otherwise dark time for them. Sometimes all one needs is to be reminded of something good in their life.
How can you show kindness towards a business in your community or business you use frequently? The best way to do this would be to leave a review! It can be for your favorite coffee shop, grocery store, mom and pop shop or even your storage facility. There are many websites you can do this from Google to Facebook and Yelp. I find this is a wonderful way to remind the companies that you use frequently that their customer service matters!
No matter what you decide to do, remember to do it with sincerity. Being kind is free, and everyone deserves to be shown any day of the year.
