Oceanside Pier is located in Pier View Way, N Pacific Street, Oceanside, CA 92054 which is in the north San Diego County, California. It is a wooden pier and you can watch surfers, pelicans and folks fishing as you walk along its length – which is 1/3rd of a mile and takes around 10 minutes from one end to the other. There is a Ruby’s Diner at the end of the pier in case you get hungry. There is also a bait shop if you need fishing supplies or want to rent equipment. You can easily walk to the pier from the Mission and Tremont Street downtown area.
Oceanside Pier History
Oceanside Pier dates from 1888 in the area that is Wisconsin Avenue. It did not last long as it was destroyed by storms during the winter of 1890. The pier was rebuilt in 1893 at the current location at Pier View Way. There have been four versions of the pier that have been destroyed by storms over the years. The current pier dates from 1987.
Near to the pier you can find the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre. The amphitheater is host to many annual events that are enjoyed by locals and visitors. The Beach Recreation Center, is a 17,000 square foot facility located near the pier that includes a gymnasium, meeting room, stage, and kitchen. Both the amphitheater and the community center were renamed in 2012 in honor of hometown football hero Junior Seau.
There are great views of the beach from the pier. There is ample parking nearby as well as facilities such as toilets, playgrounds, firepits and beach access. There is wonderful scenery all around if you are into photography or taking videos. There are also beautiful sunsets to enjoy at the end of the day.
