Things to Do in Murrieta, CA
People travel to Murrieta for many reasons, including its outdoor recreation (the city encompasses 1,350 acres of trails, open spaces and natural areas), award-winning wineries and famous annual events. If you happen to be in Murrieta in March and April, you have a chance to catch the renowned golden poppy super bloom. With enough rainfall, the hillsides turn bright orange in the spring — it’s an incredible sight to see, bringing flower fans from across the state.
But if you miss the super bloom, don’t fret. Other events in Murrieta also attract a boisterous crowd, including the Rod Run, held in November and showcasing more than 400 classic cars, hot rods and customs. Another major attraction is the Tour de Murrieta, one of California’s most prestigious cycling events. Not only can you watch incredible cyclists zoom through Murrieta’s downtown, but you can also check out live music, diverse food vendors and the adorable children’s race.
Go on a wine-tasting and horseback riding adventure at Susie Q Ranch, just east of downtown, or head out to the boutique Miramonte Winery for its romantic wine country ambience and scenic verandas. Miramonte offers tours of the vineyard, crush pad and barrel cellar, along with food pairings. If you’re still hungry, the winery also includes the Flower Hill Bistro — we recommend stopping to dine on house-made flatbread topped with San Marzano tomato sauce and marinated mozzarella.
West of Murrieta is the 9,000-acre Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve. The preserve contains the Moreno and Machado Adobes, which are Riverside County’s oldest still-standing structures, as well as remnants of the ancient Luiseno culture, including indentations in boulders where the Indigenous people ground acorns. It’s a habitat for numerous endemic plant and animal species, including threatened Engelmann oak trees and pond-dwelling fairy shrimp.
Heading back toward downtown Murrieta, the Mulligan Family Fun Center offers a whole weekend’s worth of entertainment, ranging from mini golf and go-karts to laser tag and water slides. A popular spot in Murrieta for parties, the Mulligan Family Fun Center delights both kids and their parents. Best of all, it’s less than a 10-minute drive from our storage facility.
