Mission Viejo Library is located at 200 Civic Center, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. The library was built in 1997 and was originally 9,000 square feet in size. At that time it was operated by the Orange County Public Library System. With the Mission Viejo area growing in size the library withdrew from the county system and the Mission Viejo City Council voted to operate its own city library.
The new 27.500 square foot Mission Viejo Library was opened in 1997. In the year 2000 a 14,400 square foot expansion was approved which was completed in 2002.
The library focuses on being an educational support vehicle for the local community. It encourages learning, and literacy and aims to do this with both creativity and innovation. It is also encourages family involvement and aims to be a center for cultural and civic activities.
The library participates in regular activities such as lending books, magazines, DVDs etc. They also provide adult, teen and child activity programs along with providing meeting rooms, computers and Wi-Fi for the use of the community.
The Friends of Mission Viejo help the library by accepting donations which are then used to fund new items for the library. The Friends are involved with running the library bookstore. They also help to raise awareness for the library and encourage community participation.
The Friends of the Mission Viejo Library is also involved with the Readers Book Club. The Book Club meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7pm in the Saddleback Room.

Monday – Thursday, 10 AM to 9 PM
Friday, 1 PM to 5 PM
Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM
Sunday, 12 Noon to 5 PM
The library is closed on major holidays.
