Mesa is a city located in Maricopa County, Arizona and makes up part of Greater Phoenix. The population is just under half a million which makes it the third largest city in Arizona. The original dwellers of this area were the Hohokam who lived here 2,000 years ago. Many of the canals used today were built by them. They mysteriously disappeared approximately 500 years ago.
Mormons settled in Mesa at the end of the 1800s and Mesa as we know it now developed from this time. It was a small town until the development of air conditioning during the 1950s and 60s that really encouraged people to move here. Many communities sprung up and people moved here to enjoy the wonderful desert climate. The weather in Mesa is typical of the Southwestern Deserts with a super-hot summer, and a beautiful fall, winter and spring.
