Cinco Ranch is at the Center of Booming West Houston
According to Niche.com, Cinco Ranch is the best place to live in Fort Bend County, with an overall A+ grade. That’s because this master-planned community has highly rated public schools, excellent amenities, affordable housing and low crime. Only 30 minutes from central Houston, Cinco Ranch provides families and businesses with many reasons to love the area.
This growing community has a fascinating history, too. In the early 1900s, William Wheless purchased a ranch from Thomas Blakely, a cattleman and sheriff. Wheless renamed the area Cinco Ranch in homage to the region’s Spanish roots, partnering with several local families to develop a successful cattle driving business. They also grew rice, which was at one time the primary output for nearby Katy, Texas, as well as peanuts. In 1984, the Cinco Ranch venture purchased 5,000 acres for a master-planned development. It was the largest raw land transaction in the history of Houston and led to the beautiful neighborhood with more than 15,000 homes that we know and love today.
Cinco Ranch families appreciate the top-notch public schools in the area, many of which are part of the Katy Independent School District. On the weekends, you’ll find people of all ages enjoying the numerous parks, 17 tennis courts, 11 community pools, two beautifully maintained golf courses or the LaCenterra shopping complex. Many of these high-quality amenities are found along extensive greenbelt trails.
Many move to Cinco Ranch for its proximity to Houston’s Energy Corridor, a business district hosting BP America, Citgo, ConocoPhillips and Shell Oil Company. The area also attracts professionals working in healthcare because the Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus is found on Cinco Ranch’s northeastern border.
