Storage West East Houston is located in Channelview, Texas, an oil refinery suburb of the metropolitan Houston area. This is the site where the San Jacinto River forms Old River, south of Interstate Highway 10 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad and eight miles southeast of Houston in eastern Harris County. It was named for its location on the northeastern curve of the Houston Ship Channel and was populated by blue-collar oil refinery workers and their families after oil discoveries in the area in 1916.
Today, Channelview is home to more than 35,000 people. The North Channel area holds a special place in Texas history. Many of the state’s earliest historic sites are located within minutes of Channelview. Channelview was also home to one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Texas – Lorenzo de Zavala. During World War I, the area south of Market Street to the Ship Channel was part of the U.S. Army Ordnance Depot.
The weather in Texas is unpredictable. While Texas is known for its humidity and hot weather, we do have cold weather from time to time – usually from late October through early March (however, during that time period the weather will warm up and then get cold again the next day). The rest of the months – March through October – are a mix of hot and hotter weather. Since Channelview is located approximately 50 miles inland from the Gulf Coast, hurricane season is a concern for our city, but most residents and businesses are used to the weather and make preparations well ahead of time.
