Chandler Delivers on Affordability, Thriving Culture and a Flourishing Job Market
It’s easy to see why thousands of people call Chandler home. It’s a straight shot to other urban centers including Downtown Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe and Gilbert. From the city’s revitalized downtown area to its booming housing market and ever-growing industries, Chandler is among the best spots in Arizona to stay, for either long- or short-term.
Chandler was founded in 1912 by veterinarian and engineer Dr. Alexander John Chandler. Probably won over by the incredible Arizona sunsets and mild winters, Dr. Chandler drew up plans for a townsite in the desert. It was incorporated into Maricopa County in 1920. Since the early 1990s, Chandler has established itself as one of the fastest-growing and most desirable municipalities in the country. With a light rail connection planned in the coming years, Chandler’s population will continue to expand.
The area’s rapid growth is, in part, due to big companies like Intel, Microchip and Bashas choosing to base large operations in Chandler. Families also enjoy the high-quality school districts, affordable cost-of-living and plenty of year-round activities to entertain all ages.

What to Do in Chandler, AZ
Whether you’re a parent, a couple, retired or at the height of your career, Chandler truly has activities and attractions for everyone to enjoy. The northern half of Chandler is known for peaceful subdivisions, parks and ample shopping.
Even as malls close around the country, the Chandler Fashion Center remains one of the biggest attractions in the East Valley. It’s the second largest mall in the metro-Phoenix area, with more than 185 stores, two dozen restaurants and plentiful entertainment. Visitors stroll alongside storefronts under high-ceilinged, well-lit mall corridors, stopping at family favorites like Cheesecake Factory or enjoying a movie at the Harkins Theater.
Chandler residents also enjoy spending weekends at Desert Breeze Park, a public green space offering grassy meadows and a picturesque lake, complete with paddling ducks. You’ll also find an antique carousel, originally built in the 1950s, as well as a fully functional train chugging around the park. The park is also known for its serene hummingbird habitat, with native and desert-adapted plants that attract hummingbirds.
People in the Phoenix area love to golf – but Chandlerites are especially fond of the sport. Fun fact: remember the city’s founder, Dr. Alexander John Chandler? He built the San Marcos Resort in 1912 –the same year Arizona became a state – with a little help from an architect named Frank Lloyd Wright. One of the first golf courses in the state was added a year after the hotel was built – and more than 200 courses followed suit in the Phoenix Metro area over the next 100 years. In more recent years, the course underwent a multi-million-dollar restoration. It’s now considered one of the best spots in the Valley to tee up.
After you finish golfing, why not go for a beer? If you’re interested in tasting some locally made brews, we recommend stopping by the San Tan Brewery and Distillery in northern Chandler for a distillery tour. There, you can learn how craft beers (with interesting names like MoonJuice and Devil’s Ale) and whiskey are made. Finish the day with a visit to the tasting bar, which boasts an enormous selection of San Tan favorites and merchandise.
Chandler offers residents and visitors unparalleled convenience; there is easy access to Loops 101 and 202, as well as Highway 60, and numerous grocery stores, shopping districts, hospitals and amenities are all within a short drive.
