Atascocita1Atascocita is a part of Harris County, Texas, which lies to the east of Humble and northeast of downtown Houston. It is one of the fastest growing communities in the US and currently has a population of over 65,000 many of whom enjoy the local parks, golf courses, tennis facilities and country clubs.

Atascocita existed in the early days of Texas but modern day construction started during the 1970s. There was a building boom which lasted until the 1990s. Presently there are more than 15 established neighborhoods in the area offering a variety of housing options.

What does Atascocita mean? Atascocita is a Spanish word meaning soft, water laden or boggy land.

Atascocita2To the east of Atascocita lies Lake Houston which has an abundance of water related activities including boating and fishing. The lake was constructed in the early 1950s. It is crossed by the Missouri Pacific rail line, and the McKay Bridge at F.M. 1960. Atascocita lies north and south of the F.M. 1960 road connecting much of Southern Texas. This road was originally known as the Atascocita Trail and has always been an important transportation route.
