When you’re deciding where to go to splurge on a meal, you want to choose a place that has good food. But many restaurants can meet that requirement, and that’s when the location, décor, and ambiance take over.
Open Table revealed its top 100 scenic restaurants in the US for 2018, and the Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff by the Sea made the list. When you learn a little bit about the restaurant (or visit it for yourself) it’s easy to see why.
Beautiful Ocean Views
The people who designed Pacific Coast Grill did so with the view in mind. The restaurant is on two levels. Each level has its own bar. There is a heated outdoor patio as well as a deck, both of which have unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean and the Cardiff Reef.
The genius of the restaurant’s layout is that every table has an ocean view. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. Whether you grab a table right by the window or a little farther back, you’ll still get to see the spectacular scenery you came for.
On a typical evening, the view might include diving seabirds, dolphins, whales, surfers, and a spectacular sunset over the water.
If you’re hosting a private event, you can reserve the Pacific Coast Grill’s Reef Room, which accommodates 12 people. It has its own private deck where diners can enjoy the stunning view.
A Menu of Extraordinary Seafood
As you might expect, the menu at Pacific Coast Grill features an array of seafood dishes. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, local ingredients.
The seafood options include both raw and cooked preparations. Reviewers rave about the restaurant’s creative sushi rolls, which include a Cardiff Reef Roll with spicy tuna, Dungeness crab, jalapeños and a ginger and ponzu sauce, and a Sunshine Roll with hamachi, salmon, coconut shrimp, mango, and a sweet chili sauce.
The seafood entrees are just as inventive. One popular choice is the Cardiff by the Sea Scampi, which uses four-cheese ravioli in place of the usual linguine. The Pacific paella features lobster, mahi mahi, clams, scallops, shrimp, and saffron Arborio rice.
If you’re not a fan of seafood, you can still find something to enjoy at the Pacific Coast Grill. Their dinner menu has a chili-rubbed filet mignon and plum-ginger braised short ribs, among other options.
For diners who are vegetarian or gluten-free, there are menus to accommodate your needs. The restaurant also has a kids’ menu with favorites like chicken strips and burgers, as well as kid-friendly versions of surf and turf and fish and chips.
The wine list specializes in limited production Pacific Coast wines, making it a great place to sample some products from California’s renowned vineyards.
To finish your meal, you can try one of the Pacific Coast Grill’s desserts, such as the Tahitian Coconut Cheesecake, with coffee or an after-dinner drink.
