Storage space can be a limited resource in your home. It’s essential that you are utilizing each and every inch of the storage space you have available. Check out this video on 5 storage tips for finding useful, hidden spots in the home:

5 Hidden Storage Spots in Your Home – Video Transcription

Storage space is a finite resource, especially if you live in an expensive city like I do. The cost of real estate in Toronto is crazy. That being said, it’s really important that whatever space you do have at home, you are maximizing your storage solution.

Now, there are some crafty storage solutions you might not know about. So, this week, I’m going to show you five sneaky extra storage solutions that you can try at home. And just a quick reminder, if you haven’t done so already, subscribe to the Clean My Space channel.

We’ll start things off with the vertical space in cupboards. And if you have a kitchen cupboard anything like mine, you really wonder sometimes: who designs these things? Because there’s so much extra space between the bottom shelf and the next shelf. There’s an easy fix for this where you can essentially double how much space you have in your cupboard.

All you need to do is grab one of these. It’s a stacking shelf – pretty self-explanatory what it does. You basically pop it in your cupboard, put things underneath it, put things on top of it, and you effectively double your shelf space.

When I was growing up, I was horrified of the area under my bed. But now, as a grown-up and someone who knows better, under your bed is actually a cavern of free storage space. Take this, for example. These are some clothes that I will occasionally wear during shoots but I don’t wear all the time. Where am I going to keep them? I’m not cluttering up my closet with this stuff! I am putting it in an under-the-bed storage solution.

This one is made by Bella. This one is cool because it has wheels so it can easily slide in and out. I do want to make a quick note. In the event that you are taking this the wrong way, it doesn’t mean that you can ram everything under your bed willy-nilly. You have to be organized about it.

Now, if you don’t want to get something like this, which is hard shell, you can always pick up Ziploc space bags. I really like the space bags for seasonal storage. So, in the summer, it’s great to store extra pillows and blankets. You can also store winter clothing in there. Those are very easy to use. Stuff the item in, suck the air out with vacuum, it’ll shrink and it will easily slip under the bed.

Going back to the topic of vertical space for a moment, the area behind your door is a brilliant spot to gain some extra storage space by using one of these. It’s a shoe bag, which is clearly designed for storing your shoes but basically no one uses it for that any more. In fact, when I was at overnight camp many years ago – I wish I was still there – we used to use these to store everything. And, there are so many different ideas of what you can actually use this for.

I’m wondering if you guys would like to see a video that I compiled with all kinds of different uses for these shoe bags. All you have to do is hang it over the end of your door, find a creative use for it, and start storing.

Utility spaces are great for hooks, and the thing I love about hooks – I mean, I know you guys know about hooks for storage, but so often you have to think about either ruining the paint or actually nailing it into the wall. A lot of hooks these days are actually made with adhesives that won’t ruin paint and won’t ruin drywall, and they can handle quite a bit of weight. For example, this one can hold seven and a half pounds of weight. It’s even got a stepladder in the picture over here. This of all the hooking opportunities.

Corners. Who thought about storing stuff in corners? We did. I mean, other people did too, but it’s an idea that I think works really well. Now, this product in particular has been designed for your shower. It sits nicely in the corner and you can store all kinds of different products. It’s held in place with a tension rod. This is actually a perfect storage solution. It can be great for storing other laundry products and laundry tools and accessories and, you know, laundry has a lot of stuff associated with it. So, this is a great solution. You can also use it in other utility spaces like garages or even your pantry.

Where there’s space, there is a potential storage solution. I hope that some of these ideas have inspired you and helped you figure out new ways to store stuff that you’re currently not able to find a little space for.

I would love to know, what is it that you’re struggling storing? Let me know in the comments down below. Is it a baseball card collection? A vacuum cleaner? Pots and pans? Clothing from your grandmother? I don’t know! Let me know and I’ll see if I can come up with a solution for you in a future storage video.
