There are many communities in the area around Houston, but Atascocita is special. It’s a community that has grown rapidly since 2000, but it still retains its small-town charm.
Here are 4 things that make Atascocita a great place to live.
#1: It’s an Easy Commute to Houston
One of the best things about living in Atascocita is that you have the benefit of living in a small city with plenty of green space while being only 18 miles away from Houston. That means that Atascocita is a good place to live if you’ve got (or want to get) a job in Houston.
It also means that Houston’s museums, parks, sporting events, and nightlife are within reach. Whether you want to head into the city with the kids on a weekend or have a night out with your friends, you can get there and back with a minimum of fuss.
#2: It’s Bordered by Lake Houston
Atascocita is located on the Eastern shore of Lake Houston, a 12,000-acre man-made lake that serves as a reservoir and recreational area.
In addition to providing water for Houston and Atascocita residents, Lake Houston Park is a place where Atascocita residents can go fishing or boating. Lake Houston Park also has an array of hiking trails and campsites for people who can’t get enough of nature.
#3: It Has Tons of Green Space
We’ve already mentioned Lake Houston Park, but Atascocita is also home to Lindsay/Lyons Park and Sports Complex. The complex has a barbecue pavilion and barbecue grills; sports fields for baseball, football, soccer, and softball; playgrounds; picnic tables; a sensory garden for children with impaired site; and a paved walking trail around the playground.
Construction is underway on Atascocita Park. The park’s opening was delayed due to Hurricane Harvey, but it’s now scheduled to open in 2020. Amenities will include:
- A dog park with a separate play area for small dogs
- A 2.5 acre pond with a boardwalk
- A large playground and open play areas
- A picnic pavilion
- An 8-mile trail for hiking and biking
The trail will open late in 2019, and the park itself is schedule to open in early 2020. You should also know that Atascocita is home to multiple state-of-the-art golf courses.
#4: It Has Excellent Schools
The children of Atascocita are served by the Humble Independent School District, which operates 25 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 5 high schools, and a magnet high school. Atascocita High School, which has an exterior modeled on Thomas Jefferson’s estate, Monticello, is a Recognized campus by the Texas State Board of Education and has an excellent reputation.
Quest Early College High School is a small magnet school in Atascocita where students can earn college credit through Lone Star College/Kingwood while they’re still in high school. It gives Atascocita students a chance to fast-track their college careers.
If you’re looking for a welcoming place to live in Texas, it would be hard to do better than beautiful Atascocita. With its acres of green space and convenient location, it has something for everybody.
